She was just like one of you. She had
dreams, a past, and opportunities that she would've never guessed. She was okay
with an average life, where she came home to a family dinner every evening and
slept knowing she’d wake to her mother's cries of how she was one lazy child.
But that was acceptable, don't all mothers complain?
College was a bundle of undying fun. Recreational
activities never ceased to come up. She was a guy to the guys and an
insignificant girl to the girls. And that was fun. Boys loved beer, football
and video games. She did to. With her short hair, flat-chested demeanour,
backpack and pale face, she looked like one of them for quite a while. She didn't
interest the boys in any manner apart from socially acceptable amusings, and
they didn’t interest her either. No she wasn't lesbian! Maybe, just bi-curious.
Until, she met 'the' boy.
But not much changed. They fell in love,
went through all those predictable relationship issues, drama and plans for
forever were being drafted. A few years of her life could be defined – hell and
heaven, combined, with a little bit of earth.
She still hung out with the guys, went to
guys night-outs, it felt more sane; than make-up and boy small-talk that girls
made. She did enjoy it, but hardly contributed to those frivolous discussions. She
was pretty weirded out at times like those. She thought she was pretty
approachable, and made an effort to stay grounded. She loved being the bully during
class, and landing her best friend in trouble almost every time she attended a
lecture. She ate from the street carts, but loved her McDonald’s chicken combo
meal.
She was the master of contradictions, indecisive choices and never really
blamed anyone, not even herself. The consequences didn't bother her.
Some days she sang in the church choir;
taught catechism to kids of the 2nd grade and helped write for the
church magazine; volunteered at parish events and loved these occasional social
outings. She was a regular at Sunday morning mass, even though she was probably
smashed that Saturday night.
Anyway, gotta stop now, kids. But i'll be back, cuz that odd girl had more going on than boys, beer and church!
